Garlic Bread - Simply fabulous This method of making garlic bread is simply fabulous.
1 loaf french bread - for this size we use a 12 inch loaf. Preparation: Separate the garlic cloves from the head, but do not peel (yet). Here is the key. Toast the garlic cloves in a hot dry frying pan for several minutes - turning frequently - until they are toasted (softened) but not brown. It takes a little practice to get this right. The toasting removes the harsh garlic taste. Peel and mash the garlic into the softened butter. Split the bread length-wise and spread evenly with the butter/garlic mixture. Bake the bread on a cookie sheet - buttered side up - in a 450 degree oven until the edges of the bread begin to toast. Slice and serve.
