Our April, 2006 Travelogue

Our April Pics are Here

3/30 - 4/1 After we left lower Alabama we went to a COE park in the very SW corner of Georgia. The nearest town was Chatahoochee Florida. Nice park, nice weather, very relaxing. The lake had a bay with a couple of large aligators, which sort of freaked Mary Jane out. There were quite a few nice birds to watch along the waters edge as well. The lake is formed by a dam, which was a busy place for fishing - both by people and birds. Several Ospreys were having a field day.

4/2 - We took highway 84 across Georgia - is is a great road for RVers - mostly 4-lane, smooth, and lightly traveled. Our overnight stop was at a Passport America park just south of Hollywood GA, a nice campground.

4/3 - 4/5 - We paid a visit to Jekyll Island, Georgia and stayed for three nights. The island has great beaches, beautiful bike trails, and a fishing pier. Randy had a great time catching blue crabs - which were great tasting and fun to catch.

4/5-4/6 - Made a dash north today, and we arrived in Brevard, NC, on April 7th, and moved into our camp sight at the Cradle of Forestry in America in the Pisgah National Forest. The volunteer camp is great, and the facility is super as well. We'll be working at the Forest Discovery Center three days a week until July, 21st. As time passes we'll be updating the site with various area attraction descriptions, and hopefully some Southern/Mountain recipes and cooking items.

4/14 - We are done with our four days of training, and took a day trip with the other volunteers to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. It is all decked out with Spring flowers and the tulip garden is fantastic.
