This spring and summer we volunteered at the District Ranger Station and Visitor Center of the Pisgah District of the Pisgah National Forest. The center is located on highway 276, about a mile and a half north of the highway 64/280 intersection in Brevard, North Carolina. This is one of the highest use recreational areas in North Carolina. The major attractions are numerous camping opportunities, stream fishing, waterfall viewing, and literally hundreds of miles of hiking trails. The center is 14 miles below the Blue Ridge Parkway - it can claim some of the greatest scenery in the East.
In exchange for each of us working three days a week we received a full hook-up RV site near the station and work center. Our job involved greeting visitors and assisting with planning their visit to the forest. Randy also worked cleaning roadside campsites one day a week.
