Fall, 2008 - leaving North Carolina and traveling to Texas for the winter.

We completed our volunteer gig at the Pisgah National Forest Ranger Station on October 29th. On the 30th we hit the road. We made a big push to arrive at the Brickyard Plantation in Americus, GA for a little relaxation and golf.

From Americus we headed south for a repeat visit to St. George Island State Park. The beach was beautiful as usual, but there were a lot of mosquitoes in the campground. The park ranger told us to avoid the hiking trail on the bay side of the park - they have both fresh and salt water mosquitoes there. Lucky them! It is great to be able to hike for miles on a pure sand beach!

Leaving Apalachicola, we followed the coast highway through Pensacola and on to Magnolia Springs, AL to see our friends the Girdwoods. Stayed there two nights, and had a nice visit.

Then it was off for Texas - and a visit with the Hallens in Georgetown. We stayed in a very nice Corps of Engineers Park in Georgetown. We stayed a few days there - explored the area some more, and ate too much. Austin has a nice botanical garden and we also visited the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.

After our Austin/Georgetown visit we dashed for South Texas and our new little place in Pharr South in Pharr Texas. We are able to park in front of our place for up to two nights to unload and move in. We were amazed that we seemed to need both days to unload the motor home. What a load we had - no wonder we were really close to our maximum gross weight rating. After we unloaded we were able to store the rig in a small RV park near MJ's mothers home. We will be able to check on it frequently and get some work done on it as time permits.

We're settling into the new park, making friends, and learning the ropes.

More as the season progresses.......
