Birding in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas?

We are very casual birders. We each carry binoculars, and we have a Peterson Field Guide to Birds of Eastern and Central North America (Fifth Edition). We frequently carry the digital camera while out and about - just in case we see something worthy of a snapshot.

Our birding in South Texas has ranged from the seashore of South Padre Island inland to Zapata, and North to Austin. Only a couple outings were specifically birding trips, but we have managed to see quite a few nice birds. It's interesting that a lot of the birds have been seen on golf courses. I hope our golfing partners didn't mind waiting while I took the pictures!

Our sitings to date are listed below, with links to pictures if we happen to have one. I've organized them by location, and have ommitted the common birds.
