When we left the working world we were able to convert Mary Janes health insurance to a private plan at her group rates. While this type of arrangement is a good deal, there can be catches. We've got great coverage while we are in Minnesota - the home of the HMO network. We've also got great coverage if we have some kind of medical emergency while on the road. What we do not have is great coverage for non-emergency conditions. For example, Randy's stupid ingrown toenail. While in Texas we attempted to get it looked at, and our healthcare provider could not locate a clinic that would accept their program. We were urged to call around to see if they would accept their plan limits and payment schedule. Luckily our self-medication worked. Again, we're not attempting to suggest a solution - we simply want to point out something you will want to consider when contemplating a full-time lifestyle. NOTE: This is not to be considered as medical advise. It is just our experiences. Check with your physician and/or insurance carrier. |
