Fortunately, there are places where an RVer can stop and rest for a few hours or overnight. This is a very important privelage.
Some good friends Joseph and Vicky developed a list of their most-favored places to stop. We'll share it with you. Not all these apply to everyone as Joseph is an Episcopal Priest, and retired military.
Here it is:
- Walmarts, Cracker Barrels, and other large parking lots-you may need to ask permission at these locations. Observe local posted regulations.
- Church lots - ask if it is okay to stay there.
- City & County Parks - you can check the net or ask about local parks when get to a town.
- State Parks
- Military Bases - Call the main Base number & ask about "Family Camps".
- RV
Courtesy Parking - On club members property - available from clubs like WBCCI/Airstream, Escapees, etc. Check with your RV club.
- Airstream & Escapees Parks.
- Truck Stops-Flying J & Love's are good - but can be noisy.
- Commericial campgrounds - some of these are with a motel & cheaper.
- Rest stops--we've never stayed at one as feel may not be safe.
- Texas has lots of "picnic" pulloffs--we don't like to stay at those but some people do.
One rule that we, as well as many other full-timers, have adopted is that if either of us is uncomfortable staying in some location we move on. This is a no questions asked, no explanation needed rule. We both deserve to feel comfortable in our surroundings.
